Countdown to Vienna - PORTUGAL!!

If you gotta love a tryer, then you gotta love Portugal!!  Gawd love 'em, they've been trying to win Eurovision since the 60s, but the closest they've come is a couple of top ten finishes.  They've tried political statements, they've tried latino pop, they've tried big ballads and the traditional Fado style, and have never troubled the medallists podium.

Looks like they aren't that fussed about how they do this year either really, as they have selected a mid-tempo plodder of a tune.  Leonor Andrade is the singer, and she is competent enough, but the song "Ha um mar que nos separa" (There's a sea that separates us) just doesn't seem to go anywhere, and I fear that for another year that there will be more than a sea that separates Portugal from the final on Saturday night.  Have a listen, and see what you think:

So what do our esteemed panel make of it?:

Asta Bjornsdottir:  "I like this, actually, but......she looks very angry about something but the song sounds very light, there is something rough/tough missing. She‘s good but the song never really flies."

Hasse Skoldebjer: "I like her way more than the song, although the song is ok 5/10."

Annemieke Kelleter: "There's something about this song I really like but I prefer the first, more unpolished version. There could have been a bit more variety in it and she's not the worlds best singer but overall I quite like it. Only thing I'm worried about is that it seems to be quite forgettable."

Adam and Charlotte Lane: "Ticks some of the Eurovision boxes: she’s got a powerful voice; it’s got a predictable chord structure; but it’s just not making enough of an impact. She didn’t cope with the key change very well at all. 1/10."

Not a ringing endorsement then! What do you think about it? Leave us a comment to let us know!
